When you're the new girl in town, a single girl at that, you have to get out and explore what is around you. Luckily enough, I had a friend show me the ropes of getting out of Long Beach and around Los Angeles County. Long Beach transit offers museum transportation in the summer for $8 round trip! It's called Long Beach Museum Express. There are tons of places on the list you can choose from. Yes, you get to load up your friends on a bus with other locals and take a journey across Los Angeles sightseeing and enjoy some of the best museums and parks in and out of the city. I will say I was not too excited about going to the gardens because it seemed like a "walk in the park" and I figured I could do that at home and not waste 5 hours of my life. Yet, I was totally wrong because Descanso Gardens gave me a "run for the money" and I mean that in a good way.
Located right smack between Burbank and Pasadena you won't feel like you're in Los Angeles anymore. This urban retreat feels like a botanical oasis filled with exotic and domestic plant life. There will be hiking so I suggest you wear closed toed shoes and pack plenty of water because there's a lot of lands to cover. I got some really great pictures here. The landscape was beautiful and you can also tour the Boddy House and museum *You can not take photos inside* sorry you will just have to see it for yourself. It's pretty much a mansion on top of a hillside. It's very old Hollywood money with over twenty rooms.
This entire trip was really fun and I even stopped in the gift shop and bought a few things as if taking home these beautiful pictures weren't enough.
Thanks so much to my friend who bought the tickets to board the express $8 and also to enter the gardens $6 (student discount).
This trip was a total of = $14 per person.
If you don't eat at the cafe, you can bring your own food, it's a cheap trip.
We packed peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips, water, and dried fruit.
Still, I ate there... so, the true total would be:
Cafe - $11.25
Express - $8
Garden Entry - $6
----------------------- TOTAL = 25.25

I ordered the Peach ice tea and the Asiago Chicken Wrap. Cost about $11.25
All the food is grown within the garden's section called "Nature's Table" an organic garden on the location that provides the food at the cafe.
The Koi Fish were huge. I mean the size of a kids arm.
They were many animals on site, such as frogs, turtles, lizards, snakes, dragonflies, butterflies, spiders, fish, and a variety of birds.
The rose garden is by far the best! The variety of roses will astonish you.
